MP wants poverty action

Labour’S Mark Lazarowicz has called on both the UK and Scottish Governments to take action over food poverty in view of the rising number of people using food banks.

He said it was “a sad reflection” in this day and age people had to rely on food banks to feed families.

The Edinburgh North and Leith MP said: “As food and energy prices have risen, many families just don’t have enough coming in to see them through the week, even if they are in work.

“No parent wants to depend on charity to feed their children, so if ordinary households are turning to food banks there’s a problem.

“The UK and Scottish Governments should be working together to build up a clear picture of what is happening and then take urgent action to tackle food poverty.”
