MP hails decision on car tax at post offices

EDINBURGH South Labour MP and shadow minister for postal affairs Ian Murray has welcomed the decision to allow motorists to carry on taxing their cars at post offices for at least seven more years.

He said Scotland’s 1425 post offices and sub-postmasters would be relieved by the UK Government’s announcement the contract for DVLA services had been awarded to the Post Office until March 31, 2020.

Mr Murray said: “This has come about through the campaigning and hard work of many individuals and organisations, including the fantastic postcard campaign orchestrated by the National Federation of Sub-postmasters.

“Labour have argued consistently the network’s survival will be very much dependent on government contracts of this sort.”
