MP backs bid to save land

A proposal from Craigmillar residents to protect Cairntows Park from future development has been backed by Sheila Gilmore.

Residents in Craigmillar have asked Ms Gilmore, MP for Edinburgh East, to seek Queen Elizabeth Fields in Trust Diamond Jubilee protection for the park, after groups fought off plans to build mixed-tenure housing on the site last summer.

That is now being considered by the council, and Ms Gilmore said: “It is vitally important that this park is protected from development and its recreational use is secured.”
