MP acts fast to welcome broadband

Edinburgh South MP Ian Murray has welcomed confirmation that thousands of homes in his constituency are to be included in a £2.5 billion roll-out of high-speed broadband.

Telecoms giant BT said 2700 homes and businesses in the Fairmilehead area of the Capital would be connected to the new network, which is due for completion in 2013.

The improvements will mean more than a million Scottish homes and businesses have access to BT’s fibre broadband service by the end of next year.

Mr Murray said: “This is excellent news for the local community and will not only be welcomed by residents but will be a terrific boost for businesses and the local economy, creating the potential for new enterprises and jobs. It is great to see Edinburgh at the forefront of the new digital age as BT roll out the fibre broadband network.”
