More women join the police

THE number of female officers with Lothian and Borders Police increased by 67 during the last year, new figures have shown.

Figures from March this year showed that the force had a total of 3,002 officers, of which 693 – or 23.1 per cent – were women.

The figure represents a rise on the previous year when 626, or 21.8 per cent, were women.

In a force survey, 56 officers declared their ethnicity as black or "minority ethnic". That represents 1.4 per cent of the number of serving officers.
