More wind and rain to come
GALES and rain battered Scotland over the weekend – and there is more to come during the next few days.
The Cairngorms recorded the highest wind speeds, hitting 114mph between midnight and 6am on Sunday. Other areas also saw violent gusts, with 70mph winds recorded in Edinburgh and 90mph in Fair Isle.
Among areas disrupted by the weather was the A86 at Laggan in the Highlands, which was closed by flooding.
Graeme Whipps, forecaster at the Met Office, said: “The winds will continue to be quite strong on Monday, particularly around the coasts and the hills. It will also become quite wet, with quite a lot of rain. The wind might increase to gale force on Tuesday.”
Snow could continue to fall on higher ground, but is unlikely in lower areas, including Glasgow and Edinburgh, he added.
