More Scots living alone

A NEW survey warns that the number of Scots living alone is expected to increase by over a quarter in the next 25 years.

The number of households is to rise from 2.36 million in 2010 to 2.89 million in 2035, according to the National Records of Scotland.

Acting Registrar General for Scotland Audrey Robertson said that the surge is mainly due to “more people living alone and in smaller households”.

The number of males living alone is expected to surge 57 per cent from 382,920 in 2010 to 600,040 in 2035.
