More heavy rain prompts flood warning

FLOOD warnings have again been issued for Edinburgh and the Lothians.

More heavy rain overnight prompted the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) to issue a flood watch for the area early this morning.

With rain forecast to continue throughout the day, people were being advised to prepare for flooding.

Around 20 to 30mm of rainfall is expected on the Lammermuirs and SEPA has warned that river levels are rising and localised flooding is possible.

The flood watch is one of only two in Scotland, with heavy rainfall also causing flooding in low lying areas of the Scottish Borders.

ScotRail was not reporting any disruption to its services due to rain this morning.

Rain was predicted to continue steadily throughout this morning, brightening up in the afternoon, with tomorrow set for more downpours.

The Met Office predicts it will be bright with showers on Monday, with cloud and heavy rain moving in from the west on Tuesday, then showers on Wednesday. Further bad weather is forecast for the end of the week.

Last month, dozens of people in Broxburn were left homeless after severe flooding.

The latest deluge comes after a month that saw rain cause traffic chaos in and around the Capital.
