Mixed feelings in cult dispute
PROTESTERS who demonstrate against Scientology have hit out at "mixed feelings" from Scottish authorities over the use of the word "cult".
Last month, the Evening News revealed the city council and Lothian and Borders Police had "no objection" and "no issue" respectively with the word appearing on placards at peaceful protests.
It stemmed from an incident in London, where a teenager taking part in a protest held up a sign which read "Scientology is not a religion, it is a dangerous cult".
He was handed a court summons by police for refusing to put it down.
The statements from Edinburgh authorities were welcomed by online groups, but this weekend it was reported police in Glasgow ordered activists to take down banners during protests.
