Minister backs new mental health strategy approaches

Minister Michael Matheson is to highlight the vital role evidence-based psychology interventions will play in implementing Scotland’s new mental health strategy.

The Public Health Minister will speak at a conference of the British Psychological Society’s Division of Clinical Psychology Scotland at Surgeons’ Hall in Edinburgh tomorrow.

He will tell experts: “In our new Mental Health Strategy we identify one of the key change areas as rethinking how we respond to common mental health problems.

“The application of evidence-based clinical psychology interventions will play an important part in this.”

The conference, organised jointly with NHS Education for Scotland, is being held to promote the use of psychological interventions in the health service.
