Met Office urges caution on the roads as severe weather warning issued

Motorists face 'transport poverty', according to The Royal Automobile Club Foundation

Motorists face 'transport poverty', according to The Royal Automobile Club Foundation

THE Met Office has issued a severe weather warning for most of Scotland as a band of freezing rain is predicted to fall later this evening and in the early hours of the morning.

Forecasters said the super-cooled droplets are likely to freeze the moment they hit very cold surfaces, especially roads on higher ground.

Roads and pavements are expected to become “trecherous” as the freezing rain quickly becomes freezing ice.

The yellow warning alert could be upgraded to amber later tonight if the situation worsens.

Dan Williams, spokesman for the Met Office said: “We’ve got some rain moving south-eastwards and to the north and west throughout the night. It is expected to come down as freezing rain over higher ground, mainly in south eastern and eastern Scotland, including Aderdeen.

“While there is some risk to low lying areas such as Edinburgh, the main areas of concern for drivers are roads on higher ground and passes.

“The warning for ice is in place up to 6pm tomorrow. However, I’d say that in some areas temperatures will push up above freezing at sea level with the risk clearing up more quickly in lower lying areas.”

As teenagers in Edinburgh, we were always able to distinguish foreign girls (especially those from France and Spain) because they looked very much more elegant than our local girls (who always seemed to believe that the shorter the skirt the better..no matter what dimpled flesh was showing beneath). Yes No1..I do think your posting a joke...but to get back to an important issue.....those continental visitors were usually a vast improvement on our home grown girls.!!!!! They usually had much more expensive perfumes as well!!

# 1 and 3; now if Eck and his team can change the weather, that would be something. If they do that, raise the titanic and find atlantis, then they will get my vote in 2014.

#6 The only people who refer to the French especially but also the Spanish in a derogatory way such as 'smelly' are the jumped up little brits who believe in their own fabled superiority" ---------------------------------Ok, when irony and sarcasm were discussed you were obviously fumbling with your spaver, having dribbled into your handed down from you sister underwear.-------------------If you cannot see mockery when it so easily slaps your woebegone countenance you need to read something less challenging than those of us who are able to use joined up writing enjoy doing.-------------------what I posted there, at #1, was a JOKE! I was mocking those who mock those who live in sunnier climes. Are you perchance related to Charles?

I never minded the cold, wet weather when I was young, now I can't tolerate it, and I look forward to the warm summer days, Mind you there is many ways to keep the cold out, and we just have to get on with it.

Once Independence happens the weather will improve to the point where the Spanish and all those other noisy smelly foreigners will be spending their holidays in Scotland.
