Men charged over £1m Edinburgh jewellery robbery

TWO men have appeared in court charged with committing a £1 million robbery from an exclusive jeweller.

Lincoln Warmington, 26, and Elliot Jorgensen, 25, appeared in private at Edinburgh Sheriff Court yesterday in connection with the allegation.

The pair – from the Salford area of Greater Manchester – made no plea or declaration to a charge stating they allegedly robbed Rox in Edinburgh’s George Street on 15 January.

It has been alleged that diamond necklaces, rings and watches were taken during the robbery which took place during evening rush hour.

Eyewitnesses are said to have told police that one of the robbers was armed with a gun while his accomplice allegedly carried an axe.

The store was opened four months ago in an event which was attended by former BBC Scotland weather girl Cat Cubie and the rapper Labrinth.

Experts said the theft was one of Scotland’s largest ever jewellery heists.

Since the alleged robbery, the store has spent £50,000 on improving its security. Managers have employed a full-time security guard and a locked-door policy.

A smoke cloud system, which fills the shop with a thick fog to reduce visibility, has also been installed by the retailer.
