May Gurney plans 250 job losses

A COMPANY dealing in major outsourcing contracts is axe up to 250 jobs in Scotland, it was announced yesterday.

May Gurney said the move had been prompted by the decision of one of its major clients, Scotia Gas Networks, to reduce the amount of work it contracted out.

Employees to be affected are those currently working in Falkirk, Dundee and Aberdeen.

The firm said: “We will be working with employee representatives to seek alternative roles for our people and anticipate a number could be redeployed.”

It added: “We have also been working with one of our other long-term clients – Scottish Water – with a view to using transferable skills and retraining to create new jobs on the contract we deliver for them.”
