Matter of convenience – bar to get toilets after all

A BAR which planned to open over the festive period without toilets will have facilities after all – supervised by security staff.

Pubs and restaurants criticised the decision to allow the Tron Kirk’s pop-up bar – at which drinks brand Drambuie is to host its Festival of the Extraordinary – to open without any toilets.

Fears were expressed that revellers, who would have to use the Hunter Square public toilets, would have had to resort to using facilities elsewhere.

A spokesman for venue operator Dunedin Inns and Drambuie said the public toilets, which are being leased from the city council, were used for a pop-up bar at the Festival in August without incident.

The spokesman added: “During Hogmanay, Dunedin Inns will once again use the Hunter Square toilet facilities.

“These will be supervised by venue security and facilities staff.”
