Maternal deaths probe

AN investigation was launched following a cluster of maternal deaths in the Lothians, it has emerged.

Between January 2011 and January this year, there were seven cases of deaths among pregnant women or women who had recently given birth, had a miscarriage or abortion.

NHS Lothian’s governance and risk management committee accepted that an appropriate review had taken place and in one case a significant incident investigation was completed.
