Marathon fun for students
school pupils are being urged to take part in a bid to break the marathon world record time.
The challenge, taking place during the first two weeks of October, will see relay teams attempt to run the full 26.2 miles in less than two hours, three minutes and 38 seconds.
Charity Save the Children is running the World Marathon Challenge ahead of the World Food Day on October 16.
Douglas Hamilton of the charity said: “Schools don’t need a professional running track to take part – they can do it anywhere. We hope the event will highlight the issue of hunger that affects millions of children around the world.”
Since 2008, 13 schools around the world have managed to beat the marathon world record, with Kenyan children being the fastest, doing it in less than two hours.
