Man’s hand crushed in farm feed machine
A MAN has been rushed to hospital after his hand was crushed in an agricultural feeding machine.
The 45-year-old male had been cleaning a feed auger at Hillside Farm near Broxburn when the incident happened yesterday afternoon.
It is understood the man’s left hand was trapped in the machine – which uses a rotating screw blade to move animal feed – and that severe crush injuries were sustained.
Firefighters, police and specialist medical teams raced to the farm after receiving an emergency call just before 4.30pm yesterday.
The man was treated at the scene by medics before being taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary under police escort.
A spokeswoman for Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue said: “The man was cleaning a feed auger and got his left hand trapped.
“A medic one ambulance attended and he was taken to the ERI under police escort where he was treated for crush injuries. It was a nasty case – the injuries were severe.”
