Man’s body found on railway line

Police are investigating after a man’s body was found on a railway line in Scotland.

British Transport Police said he had suffered injuries “consistent with having been struck by a train”.

Officers were called to the scene near Gretna railway station in Dumfries and Galloway at around 3pm yesterday.

Officers are making inquiries to establish the identity of the man, who is thought to be in his late 50s. His death is not being treated as suspicious.

A police spokesman said: “Inquiries are ongoing to confirm the male’s identity and the circumstances surrounding the incident.”

He added that a report will be submitted to the local procurator-fiscal.
