Man jailed for scissors attack

A man was jailed for four and a half years today for carrying out an attack armed with a pair of scissors.

Sean McLeod, 24, repeatedly stabbed his victim with the weapon after he left a flat following an argument.

McLeod was originally charged with attempting to murder Lawrence Mutasa (32) in the attack at Albert Street, in Edinburgh, on January 23 last year.

But a jury earlier found him guilty of a reduced charge of assaulting Mr Mutasa to his severe injury, permanent disfigurement and to the danger of his life.

He was also convicted of possessing an offensive weapon, the scissors, at a close in the street.

Lord Kinclaven told McLeod at the High Court in Edinburgh: “Fortunately his injuries were not as severe as is sometimes seen in this court.”

The judge said he accepted that the danger to life was potential rather than actual.
