Man faces jail after gun find in flat

A TENANT is facing jail after police found a gun and silencer in a flat which had been boarded up after a fire.

Thomas Seath returned to the property in Dalkeith, Midlothian, a few days after the blaze and was found by police carrying a ladder.

Officers told him he needed to contact the council if he wanted to gain entry and he left the scene – only to be spotted again a short time later with the ladder.

Advocate depute Stephen O’Rourke told the High Court in Edinburgh that Seath, 39, became more nervous and police were granted search warrants to the flat in Chester Square.

Seath, of Woodburn Drive, Dalkeith, admitted possessing the weapon on March 26 last year, when he appeared in court yesterday. The judge, Lord Bannatyne, deferred sentence for background reports
