Man dies in Edinburgh block of flats fire

A 37-YEAR-OLD MAN has died in a fire at a block of flats.

A second man, aged 64, was taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation following the blaze in Restalrig Road, by Leith, in Edinburgh, shortly before 4am yesterday.

Lothian and Borders Police said the victim died at the scene.

An investigation is under way into the cause of the fire, which is not believed to be suspicious.

The blaze was reported by a passing policeman, who noticed smoke coming from the
second-floor flat.

“Investigations are at an early stage to establish the cause,” a police spokesman said.
