Man dies after being hit by cab
A 64-YEAR-OLD pedestrian died after being struck by a taxi in Edinburgh in the early hours yesterday.
The man was crossing at the junction of Marchmont Road and Warrender Park Road when he was struck by a black hackney cab, police said.
He suffered severe head injuries and was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary where he later died.
Police have appealed for any witnesses to the incident which happened at 3.10am.
A Lothian and Borders Police spokesman said: “We are still trying to establish the full circumstances of this collision, which tragically resulted in a man’s death.
“Despite the time at which the incident occurred, there may have been other pedestrians or motorists in the area returning home who can perhaps help with our investigation.
“Anyone with relevant information is asked to contact police immediately.”
The road was closed for about four hours while officers examined the scene.
In a separate accident in the Highlands yesterday, a climber is believed to have fallen more than 400ft to his death on Ben Nevis.
The man – aged in his 20s or early 30s – fell while climbing the popular Tower Ridge route.
