Man charged over robbery at city bank

A MAN has been arrested and charged in connection with a bank robbery in George Street.

The 28-year-old man was due to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court yesterday following the robbery at the NatWest branch on Wednesday.

A robber struck at the bank at around 3.50pm, allegedly threatening staff before making off with a four-figure sum of cash.

The bank was sealed off with police tape while forensics officers studied the scene.

Two officers were stationed at the door while detectives inside took photographs of the branch interior.

Workers in neighbouring buildings were quizzed by police but most appeared to be oblivious to the drama.

Passers-by took to social networking sites to describe the “pandemonium” taking place on George Street as police swooped moments after the incident.
