A MAN has been taken into custody following the “suspicious” death a woman whose body was discovered in a house in a quiet cul-de-sac.

The body of the woman, named locally as Kim Campbell , was found at her home in High School View in the New Elgin area of Moray’s main town shortly after 3.15am yesterday morning.

Grampian Police later announced that a 55 year-old man had been taken into custody in the village of Dallas, less than ten miles away.

The area around High School View, close to Elgin High School, was cordoned off while investigations continued. Two rural roads in the area leading to Dallas were also closed to the public by Grampian Police.

Detective Inspector Norman Stevenson, who is heading the investigation, said: “We are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death and our enquiries are at an early stage. I can confirm that the death is being treated as suspicious, and we are following a number of lines of enquiry.”

He continued: “A 55 year-old man was taken into custody in the Dallas area earlier this morning and is currently assisting officers with enquiries. I would like to reassure the public that we are not looking for any other person as part of our enquiry.”

DI Stevenson said the B9010 between Dallas and the Cloddach, all access roads to the Hill of Wangie, and the unclassified road between Pluscarden Abbey and Dallas had been closed as part on the investigation.

“There may be some disruption to the public in the High School View and Dallas areas and I would ask the public to be patient while we progress our enquiries,” he said.

Local councillor John Divers said the death has left residents in the area completely stunned. The Labour councillor for Elgin South continued: “People are shocked and stunned by what’s happened. It seems to be have been something within the household from what I can gather. It’s in a very quiet area of the town.

“There has been a lot of police activity around the house in a wee cul-de-sac where they have set up police incident van and roads from Elgin heading out towards Pluscarden and Dallas have also been cordoned off.”
