Man admits growing £2k worth of cannabis

A MAN who was caught by police growing 16 cannabis plants produced £2400 worth of the drug, a court has heard.

Stuart McLaren, 30, was arrested after police raided his home in St Andrews Way, Gorebridge, Midlothian, in January 2012.

Yesterday, Edinburgh Sheriff Court heard how police discovered that McLaren was cultivating the plants for personal use.

The court heard that if he had chosen to sell the drug, he could have made more than £2000 from the sale.

McLaren, who has previous convictions, pleaded guilty to a single charge of producing a controlled drug before Sheriff Elizabeth Jarvie, QC.

Sheriff Jarvie deferred sentence until November 14 for reports concerning McLaren’s character.
