Man accused of murder bid on officer

A MAN has appeared in court accused of attempting to murder a police officer by trying to drown her in a reservoir.

James Brand, 22, is said to have attacked the Central Scotland Police WPC at Gartmorn Dam in Sauchie, Clackmannanshire, on Sunday, after she and another officer were called to attend a report of alleged damage to cars.

A Crown Office spokeswoman said Brand, of Alloa, appeared on petition at Alloa Sheriff Court yesterday accused of attempted murder and an offence under the Criminal Justice and Licensing (Scotland) Act.

He made neither plea nor declaration at a brief private hearing, and was remanded in custody. He is expected to make a second appearance, again in private, next week.

Chief inspector Stephen Sneddon said the officer had suffered only minor injuries.
