A MURDER investigation has been launched after a man was stabbed to death in the Gorbals area of Glasgow at the weekend.

Gerard Dobbin was stabbed in the chest in the early hours of Saturday morning and died in hospital last night.

Strathclyde Police were called out to a party in a flat in Old Rutherglen Road at around 4.50am on Saturday where officers found Mr Dobbin outside the property with a serious stab wound to his chest.

The 25-year-old from Castlemilk, Glasgow was taken to the city’s Victoria Infirmary where he later died.

Detective Chief Inspector Gary Thomson said: “A young man has died as a result of a violent assault and we are continuing enquiries into how he came about his injuries.

“I’m pretty sure the people who were at the party have information about what happened and I am appealing directly to them to get in touch with us.

“We are still trying to establish a motive for this attack. We know that a disturbance broke out in the early hours of Saturday morning but it’s not clear exactly what happened.

“It’s possible local residents may have heard sounds of a disturbance and may have seen something which could assist our investigation. Again, I would urge them to contact us.”

Officers will be reviewing CCTV footage and conducting door-to-door inquiries in the area today.
