Malcolm Webster appeal put on hold for six weeks

An appeal by the convicted wife killer, Malcolm Webster, has been continued for six weeks to allow his lawyers to study transcripts of his trial last year.

Webster, 53, was found guilty of murdering his first wife in Aberdeenshire in a staged car crash in 1994, and attempting to murder his second wife in similar circumstances in New Zealand in 1999. He was jailed for life and ordered to serve at least 30 years.

A hearing at the Court of Criminal Appeal in Edinburgh began this week and Webster is trying to have his conviction overturned as a miscarriage of justice.
