Majority ‘for wind farms’

MOST people support having large wind farms in their communities, a new poll has revealed.

The YouGov poll of more than 1000 Scottish adults found support for wind power at 62 per cent – around twice as high as support for local nuclear power plants and significantly higher than support for shale gas drilling.

The results were published at the Scottish Renewables annual conference, which began at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre yesterday.

Niall Stuart, chief executive of Scottish Renewables, said: “It is important that people bear this research in mind when debating the pros and cons of the differing choices that Scotland could make to meet its future energy needs.”
