Lottery cash for design buffs
A GROUP of local design enthusiasts who turned a city traffic island into a tropical island as part of a one-off art project have been awarded a grant to research the history of the area.
The West Crosscauseway Association have been given 14,100 from the Heritage Lottery Fund to begin its community consultation on the future of the Causey in Newington.
They will look at why the triangular space at the junction of West Crosscauseway and Buccleuch Street has become a "dreary" turning place for cars.
Robert Hodgart, chairman of the West Crosscauseway Association, said: "This grant from The Heritage Lottery Fund recognises the importance of retrieving such places for people to own and use and will reveal how this intriguing space contributes to the Southside's architectural and historic significance in Edinburgh's story."
