Lottery pair back young tennis star

Scotland’s Euromillions jackpot winners have helped raise tens of thousands of pounds to send a young tennis star for coaching in Spain.

Chris and Colin Weir are among a group of sponsors from Scotland to raise £50,000 to pay for 15-year-old Ross Wilson to attend a tennis academy in Barcelona. The teenager is from the same town, Largs in Ayrshire, as Mr and Mrs Weir.

They said in a statement: “Ross is clearly one of Scotland’s most promising young tennis players. He already has a tremendous array of trophies to his name and there is no doubting his desire and determination.

“However, getting to the top in any sport can be very expensive. His family deserves huge credit for the effort and commitment they have made to help Ross realise his potential. We are very happy to step in with the others within the consortium to help Ross progress one stage further.”

The 15-year-old is hoping to emulate the success of Andy Murray who also studied in Barcelona at a similar age.
