Lothian health workers deal with four swine flu outbreaks

HEALTH workers in Lothian are dealing with four confirmed cases of swine flu and are investigating a further four.

Twenty-two new cases were announced in Scotland yesterday, bringing the total number of cases to 141.

Two hospital doctors are among the latest confirmed cases.

Both are doctors in Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley and are thought to have caught it from patients being treated there, the Scottish Government said.

Yesterday, the Evening News reported that a 23-month-old toddler from Livingston was the youngest confirmed case in Scotland.

But a 14-month-old baby in Glasgow's Yorkhill hospital is among the new confirmed cases.

The baby, whose condition is improving, was set to be discharged from hospital last night.

The Scottish Government has announced that GPs are to widen tests for swine flu in the three areas of Scotland worst hit by the virus.

All patients showing up with severe flu-like symptoms at surgeries in Argyll and Bute, Paisley, and south Glasgow will now be checked for the virus as a matter of course.
