Lothian health hero to be named at awards ceremony

LoTHIAN’S first health hero is set to be crowned tonight at an awards ceremony in the city.

The award, sponsored by the Evening News, is among ten that will be handed out at NHS Lothian’s staff awards.

The health workers shortlisted for the prize were nominated by members of the public after they displayed exceptional commitment and dedication.

Sandra Kerr, a diagnostic waiting list co-ordinator, was put forward for “instilling a confidence that everything will be alright” by a patient.

Maxwell Reay and Lynne MacMurchie, community mental health chaplains, were nominated for their work in supporting people with mental health issues in the community.

Sheila Graham, a dermatology clinical nurse specialist, is also in the running, after she was nominated for her “incredibly positive nature” and for “helping to change” the patient’s life.

Tim Davison, NHS Lothian chief executive, said: “The Celebrating Success Awards are about recognising the very best of NHS Lothian. This is not about being the best for its own sake – it is about delivering the best for the patients in our care and the communities we serve. By involving the public we hope to recognise the staff that our patients tell us are the best.”
