Lothian groups benefit from £35k grant

NINE projects in East Lothian are to benefit from a share in a £35,000 windfall from a council fund.

East Linton Park will see more native trees planted after receiving £5000, while Dunbar will see the second phase of environmental improvements at Winterfield Park get under way following its £5000 award.

Dunbar in Bloom has scooped £1700 to install street planters, while Dunbar Shore and Harbour Neighbourhood Group netted £4000 towards the refurbishment of Dunbar Fishermen’s Monument.

With a grant of £5000, North Berwick in Bloom plans to install a tree seat outside the tourist information point in Quality Street.

Ormiston Community Council has been awarded £5000 for the repair of a Grade B listed monument commemorating the work of missionary Robert Moffat. Wallyford Community Council has received £3146 towards improving paving at Salter’s Road Coal Mining Hutch and for a plaque to commemorate the community’s mining traditions.

Meanwhile, Prestonpans Fair Trade Town Steering Group has been awarded £400 for signs proclaiming the town’s recently awarded Free Trade Town status and Musselburgh Community Council received £6500 towards floodlighting the clock tower and spire at the Old Town Hall.
