Lothian firm set to benefit from Games

A WEST Lothian company is set to share in a £1 billion boost being brought to Scotland by the Olympics.

The Games are expected to provide a massive tourist boost for economies across Scotland over the coming years.

It also emerged that Highlander, based in Livingston, has provided a range of branded outdoor gear and bags for the Games. Orders from other Scots firms have contributed to the building of the main stadium and aquatics centre.

The economic impact assessment, carried out by Oxford Economics for the Lloyds Banking Group, which is sponsoring the Games, covers a period of 12 years before and after the Games.

With nearly 11 million extra tourist visits over the period of the study, Scottish tourism businesses are expected to benefit by £185 million more than might otherwise have been spent.

Gareth Oakley, of Bank of Scotland Commercial said: “The fact that businesses in the country have seized the opportunities presented by the Games and have delivered such a big contribution to GDP must be acknowledged.”
