Lothian duo pedal to aid Parkinson’s fight

TWO woman from West Lothian have completed a 20-mile cycling challenge to raise money for Parkinson’s UK.

Shirley Seabury, 55, from Bathgate, pedalled around Stirling with her civil partner Margaret Hart, 60.

They raised more than £1000 for the charity in honour of Shirley’s mum, Netta Seabury, 82, who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s seven years ago.

Shirley said: “When mum was diagnosed with Parkinson’s, we were unable to access the services of a Parkinson’s nurse locally.

“When I saw that the funds raised from the cycle rides would go towards funding Parkinson’s nurses, I signed up straight away. I feel passionately that everyone with Parkinson’s should have access to a specialist nurse, as they do such a wonderful job.

“The day itself was fantastic. We met some lovely fellow cyclists and shared stories. And the finish line - well, that was something else.

“People were cheering, blowing whistles and clapping. I felt elated, close to tears, to have been a part in something so good for such a good cause.”
