Little hope on flood shortfall

CITY chiefs have said there is no evidence a funding gap in the Water of Leith Flood Prevention Scheme is likely to be filled.

The council is facing a 22 million shortfall for the project.

At a council meeting, Dave Anderson, director of city development, said: "There is no evidence that the funding gap will be filled, although we are pressing the Scottish Government to do so."

The city's transport committee has approved phased construction of the scheme in the event it could not be funded in its entirety.
