Lightning kills dog and burns owner

A WOMAN was taken to hospital for treatment after being hit by a bolt of lightning which reportedly killed her pet dog.

The woman was walking her dog on Scotstown Moor, Bridge of Don, near Aberdeen, on Tuesday afternoon when lightning struck. It is thought the woman was wearing wellingtons and her pet had a metal lead, which acted as a lightning conductor, according to local people and one “witness” who posted comment on the internet.

A spokesman for NHS Grampian confirmed a patient had been released from Aberdeen Royal Infirmary following treatment for minor burns. Witnesses said the woman became “hysterical” after the dog, said to have been a boxer, died. Police said the incident had not been reported.
