Licence scam leads to ban for bus firm

A BUS company has been banned from the roads by vehicle licensing bosses.

Jenkins Travel, which is based in Loanhead, Midlothian, has had its operator’s licence revoked by the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA).

A VOSA public inquiry found that the firm borrowed operator licence discs from Borders bus company Munro’s of Jedburgh between August 22 and November 2, 2011.

Jenkins’ owners, John, Shelagh and Michael Jenkins, have each been disqualified from holding or obtaining operator licences for between one and two years from March 31.

Deputy traffic commissioner Richard McFarlane said: “The lending of discs unsettles the commercial playing field for all licensed operators. It strikes at the heart of good repute.”

John Jenkins said the decision was “unjust” and insisted the company would appeal.
