Landlords join up with police to beat drugs

POLICE today hailed the city's first cannabis awareness conference as a success after around 50 landlords and letting agents took part in the crackdown on cannabis farms.

Officers held the Weed Them Out conference at the City Chambers yesterday to give advice on tell-tale signs that rented properties were being used to cultivate the drug.

The landlords and letting companies were briefed on spotting 'proxies' hired by south-Asian gangs to rent out properties on their behalf.

Sergeant Jim McKenna, the force's drugs co-ordinator said: "We have been absolutely delighted with the support from local authorities, letting agents and the general public in terms of their attendance at these events."

Anyone interested in attending the next conference on Friday should contact Sgt McKenna on 0131-311 3390.
