Knifeman threatens staff and steals cash from bookmakers

AN armed robber brandished a knife at staff in a bookmakers before making off with cash.

The robbery happened at around 12.05pm on Thursday at the Coral bookmakers in Great Junction Street, Leith.

The robber entered the shop and threatened the staff with a knife before fleeing with a three-figure sum. He was last seen heading in the direction of Duke Street.

The suspect is described as white, in his 40s, around 5ft 10ins tall, slim build, and wearing a dark-coloured baseball cap, a fawn-coloured lightweight coat with the hood up, dark tracksuit bottoms, and dark footwear.

A police spokesman appealed for information and said: "This was an extremely serious incident, and we are appealing for any information that can help us identify the suspect. Anyone who was in the area of Great Junction Street at around midday (on Thursday], who may have seen the suspect either before or after the robbery took place, should contact police immediately.

"Similarly, anyone with any other information that can help us should also get in touch."
