Knife-threat drunk jailed

A DRUNK who threatened residents in a tenement with a knife has been jailed for 16 months.

Stuart Shand, 36, was arrested after a householder at Cables Wynd House, in Leith, felt so worried for her safety that she phoned police.

Edinburgh Sheriff Court heard yesterday how Shand was heard shouting threats on a landing at a property complex. When a resident went to investigate the noise, she encountered Shand who showed that he was carrying a knife.

Police were called to the complex and Shand, who had been drinking, was arrested.

Shand, a prisoner of HMP Edinburgh, had pleaded guilty to committing breach of the peace and illegally possessing a knife on June 30 before Sheriff Gordon Liddle.
