King's Theatre gets ready for 50th Gang Show

THE 50th annual Gang Show will be staged at the King's Theatre this year, and past performers are being urged to come forward and join in the celebrations.

The performance by Edinburgh scouts and guides has featured more than 3,000 people since it first appeared in 1960. Rehearsals for this year's show are already underway, and the anniversary celebrations will include a reunion, a spring ball and a camp at Bonaly Outdoor Centre.

Director Andy Johnston, 40, first took part in the show in 1980 as a 12-year-old scout.

He said: "If you think that we are going to sing old fashioned campfire songs, deliver corny gags whilst wiggling our woggles, I can assure you – we won't. The material is bang up-to-date, challenging and, put simply, fantastic. The cast of over 200 young people are ready to deliver a knockout performance and I can tell you now – they will. It's very exciting."

He is trying to track down past performers, particularly members of the original 1960 cast.

Contact him on 0131-229 3756 or by e-mailing via www.edinburgh-gangshow.com.

This year's show will run from 17 to 21 November.
