Kids' chance for starring role at Film Festival

SCHOOL pupils across the city have been given the chance to display their creative talents at the Edinburgh International Film Festival.

Selected short films – made by individuals, classes and youth groups – will be shown alongside premieres from around the world, giving pupils the chance to share the bill with leading British and international filmmakers.

Hannah McGill, the festival's artistic director, said: "Discovery is the lifeblood of this festival and this competition is a great two-way opportunity: for the young participants to learn their craft and for us to spot the filmmakers of the future."

Technical advice will be available to support schools wishing to submit films to the competition, all of which must be received by 30 March. Application forms are available to download from.piltonvideo.org.

City education leader Councillor Marilyne MacLaren said: "There is a wealth of talent out there amongst the young people of this city and this competition is an opportunity for them to shine."
