Jury views footage of OAP's fatal collision

HARROWING video footage showing an 85-year-old man being fatally injured by a car in a pub's beer garden was shown to a jury yesterday.

David Hutchins had been taking a shortcut through the beer garden when he was hit and died nine days after the accident, a court heard.

The car driver, David Griffiths, 41, of Jessfield Terrace, Edinburgh, is accused of driving at excessive speed when he failed to negotiate the bend in Roslin, on 13 March. He told police he had been dazzled by sunshine as he went into a 90 degree bend.

Closed circuit television cameras at the Original Roslin Inn captured the accident and a few seconds of the footage was played at the High Court in Edinburgh.

The trial continues.
