Jail for man caught smuggling £750 of cannabis through Edinburgh Airport

A MAN has been jailed after being caught trying to smuggle £750 of cannabis through Edinburgh Airport on his way back from a trip to Amsterdam.

James Wilson, of Gorgie Road, was challenged by officers from the UK Border Agency (UKBA) when he arrived at the airport following his flight in May last year.

The officers searched the 22-year-old's luggage and found he was carrying 180 grams of herbal cannabis hidden inside his holdall. The cannabis had an estimated street value of more than 750.

Wilson was sentenced to 60 days in prison following a hearing at Edinburgh Sheriff Court yesterday.

Colin Fraser, senior detection manager for UKBA in Scotland East, said: "This sentence sends a clear message that smuggling drugs in any quantity will not be tolerated and the full weight of the law will be exercised if found guilty."
