It’s reel thing for Balerno cinema

A COMMUNITY cinema that offers free admission is set to splash out on essential equipment after landing a £2000 grant.

The donation by Scotmid Co-operative will help fund a projector, screen, speakers and lighting for Balerno
Village Screen.

The cinema, which is run from Balerno Parish Church, opened last month, and is operated by a team of volunteers whose work is solely funded by donations.

Oscar-winning film The Artist and James Bond’s latest outing, Skyfall, are among upcoming screenings.

Cinema spokesman Martin Gemmell said: “Balerno Village Screen is a community cinema funded entirely by donations. Our aim is to bring the community together to share in the enjoyment of watching films.

“We are grateful for the support we have received.”

Malcolm Brown, head of communications for Scotmid, described the community cinema as a “wonderful initiative”.
