AN investigation has been launched into the “unexplained” death of a woman whose body was found on an Aberdeenshire beach.

The body of the woman, who has still to be identified, was found this morning on the beach at Johnshaven, between Stonehaven and Montrose, as Coastguard personnel from Stonehaven, Montrose, Arbroath and Carnoustie were searching the coastline, along with two lifeboats from Montrose, for a missing woman.

A spokesman for Grampian Police said: “An investigation is ongoing following the discovery of a body on the beach at Johnshaven around 9.30am this morning. The investigation is at a very early stage and the death is being treated as unexplained. Police are at the scene and formal identification is yet to take place.”
