International team ready to share tourist expertise

an army of tourism leaders is set to lead a drive to boost revenue in the sector across the Capital.

A programme is to be rolled out among tourism bosses in Edinburgh and St Andrews, with 50 professionals taking part in a two-year pilot run with Edinburgh Napier
University.

Based on the Melbourne Tourism Industry Leadership Programme, the Edinburgh initiative will see workers take part in workshops and residential training weekends hosted by international experts.
Robin Worsnop, chair of Edinburgh Tourism Action Group, at whose annual conference the new programme was announced, hailed the development as a step change in his sector’s fortunes.

He said: “It is important initiatives like this are available in Scotland, and we hope it will be an exciting and successful process.

“For the industry to ‘survive and thrive’, industry leadership and collaboration are
essential.”
