Housing firm builds for the future with £13m injection
A COMPANY which provides affordable housing in Midlothian has invested £13 million in new and existing homes over the past year, its outgoing chairman has said.
Melville Housing used grants from the Scottish Government and money from private financiers to construct the £8.7m Langlaw Road project in Mayfield.
As well as providing 133 new homes, the project also helped to support the local construction industry.
Another £3.1m went towards improving existing homes by replacing windows, doors and fitting new kitchens. A further £1.1m was used to purchase homes as part of the Scottish Government’s Mortgage to Rent scheme.
Departing chairman Brian Christie said: “I would like to thank my colleagues on the committee and Melville’s hard-working staff for all their efforts over the past five years.
“I am extremely proud of what we have achieved during this time and never more so than over the past 12 months. During this time, and in the face of a number of significant challenges, Melville’s achievements have been fantastic.”
